The Fish

The Fish of the Skeena.

Seasonal salmon, wild steelhead, and northern British Columbia river fishing based out of Terrace.

Fishing for any season

The Skeena watershed offers serious fishing windows across the year.

Skeena Wilderness is an angling destination headquartered in Terrace, British Columbia. Depending on the time of year you visit, there are many different fish to pursue in the area's rivers and coastal systems.

From chrome-bright salmon to spring, summer, and fall steelhead, the timing, river conditions, and target species shape every trip.

Target species

Salmon, steelhead, and coastal river opportunities.

Chinook Salmon King Salmon

Chinook fishing in Canada's northwest is powerful, memorable, and built around some of the largest king salmon in the world. These fish are known for raw strength and trophy potential.

Sockeye Salmon Red Salmon

During strong returns, sockeye move through the Skeena in large numbers. These bright, firm fish are prized both for their speed and for excellent table quality.

Coho Salmon Silver Salmon

Northern coho are strong freshwater and saltwater game fish. With the right timing and technique, they provide excellent action on fly, spoon, and other methods.

Spring Steelhead

March, April, and May can offer clear-water spring steelhead fishing, with changing line and presentation choices as water temperatures and river levels shift.

Summer & Fall Steelhead

Summer and fall steelhead are the classic Skeena experience. Lower-river fish, tributary opportunities, floating-line fishing, and powerful wild steelhead make this one of the region's signature fisheries.

Other Species

The region also offers sea-run cutthroat trout, Dolly Varden, and sea-run bull trout depending on timing, location, and conditions.
